Scope
An outline of the
scope of my research in bicycle handling and other documents with project
plans.
My
Papers
Papers that I have
written for class projects, conferences, and journals are provided.
Terminology
There is a lot jargon
associated with this research topic. This will be a glossary of sorts
for various terms.
Experiments
There are many interesting
experiments, both small and large, that may shed some light on bicycle
handling qualities. I will try to document the experiment ideas and
make them available if anyone else may be interested in performing them.
Control Tasks
The development
of a standard set of test maneuvers for bicycles will be useful in experiments
and handling ratings.
Classes of bicycles
Describes the different
types of standard bicycles, what they are used for, and what types of
maneuvers they are required to perform.
Geometry of bicycles
Bicycle geometry
is explained along with comparisons are different types of bicycles.
Knowledge from theoretical studies and experience from bicycle designers
is presented.
Vehicle handling
quality
Vehicles have been
studied for many years and there are some defined ways to understand
handling qualities, especially for aircraft. Information about handling
qualities and how it applies to two wheeled single track vehicles is
presented.
Bicycle models
Many models have
been developed over the past hundred or so years that attempt to shed
some light into the behavior of bicycles and motorcycles. Various relevant
models are presented that may be of use in understanding the handling
qualities of bicycles.
