Mr. Hanxin Zhao's recent YouTube video popped into my YouTube feed this morning:

I watched it and then also watched his original video posted a year ago:

This is only his side of the story but the emails and voice recordings that he posts gives a large amount of evidence for his position. He is brave to share these videos, as most people that have such experiences do not speak out. I can't say that I'm surprised by his allegations or description of his experience. I'm not familiar with the professors he blames but TU Delft has been under fire about "social safety" for some time now and with the recent confidential advisor report showing a continuing problem especially for PhD candidates. We've even been reprimanded again by the government very recently. The stories I have heard at the coffee machine over the last 6 years here unfortunately too often share alignment with Mr. Zhao's experience in various ways.

If TU Delft has not given Mr. Zhao an independent review of his situation by people that are not tied to the power structure that loomed over him, they certainly should. Maybe the most striking thing in the videos is that it doesn't seem his requests for an alternative path were ever granted. Regardless of where the blame lies or whether justice should be served, this experience is so egregious that it should be taken seriously by the university. I hope it has and/or will be.
